Fourth placed Huddersfield Town maintained their push for a play-off place on Boxing Day when they recorded a fourth straight win in the Championship following a 2-1 home win over out-of-sorts Nottingham Forest.
Depending on the outcome of the Reading versus Fulham outcome, Huddersfield may well move up to third spot if they manage to take all three points against a struggling Blackburn Rovers outfit who have dropped into the relegation zone.
Huddersfield have shown resilience and strong character so far at their John Smith’s Stadium where they hold an impressive record of 8-1-2 16/10 which includes recent back-to-back wins over Bristol City and the aforementioned Nottingham Forest. The Terriers also possess a strong record at home against bottom half teams, winning five of their six encounters to date.
Visitors Blackburn Rovers dropped into the bottom three of the Championship following a fourth defeat on the trot as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat away at Barnsley on Boxing Day and this followed previous defeats to Lancashire rivals Preston North End as well as Brighton and Reading.
Blackburn’s form away from home has also been extremely disappointing as they possess a poor record that stands at 2-1-8 9/18 with only Aston Villa (7 goals) and Ipswich Town (8 goals) possessing worst attacking stats than them away from home in the Championship.
Rovers have also kept just one clean sheet on their travels to date which was at Newcastle United of all places, but I fancy them to be on the losing side again here in this New Year’s Eve early kick-off.
