Good Friday brings us action from the Championship as Easter is upon us which signals the last few weeks of the regular domestic season. My next pick features hosts and third placed Huddersfield Town taking on ninth placed Preston North End with Huddersfield now looking to claim a favourable play-off position.
Huddersfield’s automatic promotion hopes now seem to be out of the window as they’re ten points adrift of second placed Newcastle United but they do have a game in hand over the Magpies. This means they’ll be keen to make home advantage count here, although recent results have gone against them.
The Terriers have lost three of their last four at this crucial period of the season having suffered losses to Bristol City, Burton Albion and Nottingham Forest – opposition that Huddersfield would have beaten with ease a few months ago I daresay. But Huddersfield still possess a strong home record of 14-2-4 30/17, so they could bounce back here.
Visitors Preston North End currently sit in 9th spot in the Championship ahead of their trip to Huddersfield, although much of their success this season has been achieved at their Deepdale ground where they’ve gained 11 wins to date.
Preston continue to hover around the play-off pack as they’d recently put together a five-match unbeaten run prior to their defeat away at Leeds United, but drill down a little deeper and you’ll see that Preston’s last win on the road was a 1-0 win at struggling Burton Albion.
An overall away record of 5-8-7 21/29 belies a worse record away at top half opposition of 0-3-5 5/17, so I’ll give the quarter-ball on the hosts Huddersfield who should bounce back today.
