HUDDERSFIELD TOWN v SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY

Sunday 14th May 2017 – Kickoff: 1200hrs

Football – England – Championship Betting Tips

The second of the Championship semi-final first leg matches will take place on Sunday lunchtime with a Yorkshire derby between hosts, Huddersfield Town, and visitors Sheffield Wednesday when the two teams clash at the John Smith’s Stadium.

It was fortunate that Huddersfield had had a decent run of results prior to the season run-in as The Terriers fairly limped towards the finish line of the campaign with just one league win from their last five overall, which was a 1-0 win away at Wolves.

However, form is not on their side ahead of this vital first leg as they’ve lost three of their last four with defeats suffered against Fulham, a rejuvenated Birmingham City and Cardiff City. Huddersfield’s overall home record finished up on 15-2-6  34/26, and striker Nakhi Wells (10 goals) is expected to start today as they look to avoid a third consecutive home loss.

Sheffield Wednesday finished their championship season in much more convincing style as The Owls finished in fourth place but level on points with Huddersfield, following a strong run of six wins on the trot prior to their last day 2-1 loss at home to in-form Fulham.

Despite possessing a fairly average looking away record of  9-7-7  24/23, Wednesday had actually suffered just two defeats on their travels from their last nine of the season (at Leeds United and Aston Villa), and they finished with three straight wins on the road at Rotherham United, QPR and Ipswich Town respectively.

Striker Jordan Rhodes is expected to face his former club today, along with fellow forwards Fletcher, Forestieri and Hooper in one of the best forward lines in the division.

With this being a local derby and first of two legs, a cagey affair is expected and I’ll go for the draw here.
