Hull City have one foot in the Championship Play-Off Final after having dealt a hammer blow to Derby County’s chances following their emphatic 3-0 win at the iPro Stadium last week.
Steve Bruce’s Hull side are now ninety minutes away from an appearance at Wembley, but they still have work to do at their KC Stadium on Tuesday night as they look to keep Derby County quiet in the second leg.
Hull’s success this season has been based upon a solid defensive unit and an impressive home record which finished up on 15-7-1 47/12 at the end of the regular season, and they’re unbeaten in their last 14 matches on home turf. Incidentally, the only defeat that The Tigers have suffered so far this campaign was a 2-0 loss to tonight’s visitors Derby County.
Onto Derby County now, and The Rams will be mightily disappointed in their showing in the first leg at the iPro Stadium where they were totally outplayed, and they now have a massive task on their hands to overhaul Hull at the KC Stadium this evening.
Derby head into tonight’s Play-Off semi-final second leg on the back of four matches without a win as they’ve lost to Ipswich Town and Hull along with draws against Sheffield Wednesday and Brighton.
Their away record ended up on 9-8-6 29/27 as inconsistencies have always seemed to let them down on their travels. Derby need to score 4 goals this evening, and the last time they achieved this was back in April of last year away to Huddersfield Town, but they still didn’t win the game as it ended up 4-4!
I’ll back Hull not to lose here and book their place at Wembley for the final.
