Inter Milan will no doubt be keen for this season to end following such a disappointing campaign in Serie A where they failed to make a challenge for even a Europa League spot.
Inter also failed to win the Coppa Italia as they were knocked out in the quarter-final stage by Napoli, but they can make amends of sorts by winning this last match of the season against Empoli who have registered just two away wins all season in the top flight.
Recent back-to-back defeats to Juventus and Genoa should be incentive enough for the hosts to set the record straight tonight, although in recent weeks, they’ve been involved in a number of draws (four out of their last six on home turf) with stalemates against Cesena, Parma, AC Milan and Chievo Verona.
Their overall home record stands at 6-7-5 29/20 while their record at home against bottom half teams again features the draw as the prevalent result.
Empoli will consider this season a success as they kept their Serie A status intact on their return to the top flight, and even though they are currently placed 15th, they’re a massive 11 points ahead of third from bottom Cagliari going into this final weekend.
The visitors have found winning matches a tough task at this level though as two wins from their last nine overall emphasises, while away from home they’ve won just twice all season amidst an overall record of 2-10-6 17/26.
As you can see, the draw also features heavily on their travels as they’ve tried to make themselves as hard as possible to beat, but against the top half teams they’ve registered just one win away from home all season.
