Inter to cover the line when Cagliari visit

Football – Italy – Serie A

Sunday 28th September 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Inter Milan will be looking to register back-to-back home wins this Sunday when they take on lowly Cagliari following their midweek 2-0 win over Atalanta.

That midweek win maintained their early 100% record at home as they’d previously destroyed Sassuolo 7-0 in their opening home match of the Serie A campaign with forward Icardi grabbing a hat-trick and two goals from Osvaldo along with a goal from midfielder Kovacic.

These three look likely to feature again in this afternoon’s clash with Cagliari and should be short-listed as possible anytime goalscorer candidates. Incidentally, Inter Milan have lost just once at home in the Serie A in their last 17 matches at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

It’s still early days, but Inter’s home record stands at  2-0-0  9/0, and they’ve kept three clean sheets in their last four on home turf.

Visitors Cagliari are currently bottom of the Serie A with just one point to their name after a 1-1 draw at third from bottom club Sassuolo earlier in the month.

But with three straight defeats since that point at Sassuolo to Atalanta 1-2 at home, 0-2 at AS Roma and the midweek 1-2 home defeat to Torino, they face the daunting task of trying to get something off Inter in their own back-yard this afternoon.

This looks particularly tough as they’ve won just once from their last 27 away matches in Serie A which must be some kind of record for a team that has remained in a top flight division despite this poor away record.

Cagliari’s best chance seems to be the draw then, but as Inter have started strongly at home this season and haven’t conceded a goal yet, I’ll back them to win here and also cover the -1 line too. Another 2-0 home win is on the cards today.
