IPSWICH v BLACKPOOL – Pick: 1 AH-1.25 – 11 April 2015

Must win game for Tractor Boys

Championship Tips

Football – England – Championship

Saturday 11th April 2015 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Following their 2-1 defeat away at Huddersfield Town on Easter Monday, Ipswich Town know they must take all three points here this afternoon against Blackpool in order to maintain their bid for a play-off place.

Although a 1-1 draw at home with Bournemouth was a good result for the Tractor Boys, the defeat to The Terriers has stalled their play-off hopes amidst a run of some mixed results for the east anglian outfit. Wins over Bolton Wanderers and Watford have been offset by defeats to Middlesbrough and Huddersfield Town, although both of these recent defeats were inflicted upon them away from home.

At Portman Road, Ipswich have lost just once in their last seven matches while registering wins against Sheffield Wednesday, Birmingham City and Bolton in an overall home record of  12-5-3  32/14. In addition, Ipswich have kept eight clean sheets on home turf so far.

Blackpool were held to a 1-1 draw at Bloomfield Road on tuesday night by Reading and in fact, this  was a third 1-1 draw for The Seasiders on the trot with previous draws against Leeds United and Bolton Wanderers.

In reality though, Blackpool are still without a win from their last thirteen Championship matches and on the road, their problems continue as they’ve lost seven of their last nine on their travels amidst a woeful away record of  0-7-13  14/46.

They’ve also conceded the highest number of away goals in the Championship to date, keeping just one clean sheet and failing to score themselves on ten occasions. Another telling statistic is that Blackpool have conceded 2 goals or more on their travels no fewer than twelve times already, and perhaps it’s no surprise they find themselves 19 points adrift of safety at the foot of the division.

Ipswich must win here today, and with Blackpool’s poor away record, I’ll back Mick McCarthy’s men  to cover the asian line here in what could be a solid 2-0 win for the hosts.
