IPSWICH v BRIGHTON – Pick: 1 AH0 – 16 September 2014

Tractor Boys to plough on tonight

Championship Tips

Football – England – Championship

Tuesday 16th September 2014 – Kickoff: 1945hrs

Following their much-needed three points over Millwall at Portman Road on Saturday, Mick McCarthy’s men have the chance to register back-to-back home wins tonight when they entertain Brighton in Tuesday night’s midweek fixture.

Following a run of four Championship matches without a win, where the Tractor Boys earned points on the road at Birmingham City and Derby County along with defeats against Reading 0-1 away and east anglian rivals Norwich City 0-1 at home, they registered all three points on Saturday against Millwall.

Ipswich’s overall home record stands at a reasonable  2-0-1  4/2 having previously beaten a below-par Fulham outfit on the opening day of the season. Strikers Daryl Murphy and David McGoldrick (2 goals apiece) are the main contenders for an anytime goalscorer option for Ipswich.

Onto the visitors Brighton, and just when The Seagulls seemed to be finding some consistency under the guidance of former boss Gus Poyet, his departure has subsequently prompted a period of uncertainty at the AMEX Stadium where his successor, Oscar Garcia lasted only a relatively short period.

Former Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia has now taken over the reigns and Brighton have returned a mixture of results thus far; one win at home and away has been their only successes to speak of in the Championship to date, with the away win at Leeds in particular being of interest for tonight’s match – and we know all about the unrest at Elland Road at the moment!

Other results for Brighton on their travels have ended in defeats at Birmingham City and new-boys Brentford, so a trip to Portman Road tonight will be an interesting benchmark for The Seagulls.

Out of the two sides, I feel Ipswich Town are the more settled and with home advantage behind them again tonight, I’ll back the hosts with the round ball with a view to them winning this perhaps 2-1.
