Ipswich Town were handed a heavy 3-0 defeat away at St James’ Park last weekend when they travelled to the north east to play Newcastle United, but they return to Portman Road for Saturday’s clash against bottom club Rotherham United hoping to bounce back here.

With just one win in the Championship from their last seven league matches overall, Ipswich have now dropped down to 17th place in the league standings, and the pressure is starting to build on manager Mick McCarthy to lift the Tractor Boys up into the top half of the division.

However, the hosts have lost just once at home so far this season, which was a 1-0 defeat to third placed Huddersfield Town, so they’ll be reasonably confident of getting a result here. Ipswich hold a home record of  3-3-1 8/4 and they’ve kept four clean sheets in their last five home games.

Visitors Rotherham United recently parted ways with former manager Alan Stubbs as the writing was on the wall from a very early stage that The Millers were struggling to get results. Former Wolves boss Kenny Jackett has taken over, but he has a hell of a job to keep the Yorkshire club up in the Championship following a disastrous run of form.

Seven straight defeats in the English second tier has left Rotherham firmly rooted to the bottom of the Championship with just six points to their name, while they’ve lost all seven of their away matches to date with a very poor record of  0-0-7  6/23.

Unsurprisingly, they possess the worst defensive record away from home in the division, and another defeat could be on the cards at Portman Road on Saturday afternoon.
