After having secured a vital 2-0 win away at Monaco last Wednesday night, Juventus now appear to have one foot firmly planted in the Champions League final with the second leg being at their Juventus Stadium, a mere formality?

Juventus progressed through the group stages of this competition with relative ease as they topped Group H without losing a game and duly finished three points clear of second placed Sevilla.

In the round of last 16, they saw off Portuguese outfit Porto to nil with a 2-0 win in Portugal followed by a 1-0 win on home soil. They were then lined up against Barcelona in the quarter-finals where many thought they’d bow out of the competition, but they secured a vital 3-0 win at home in the first leg, and then held Barca 0-0 in the second away from home.

Against Monaco, Juve scored a 2-0 win away in the first leg, so the visitors have a mountain to climb in Turin tonight. Domestically, Juventus are seven points clear at the top of Serie A and are in the Coppa Italia final against Lazio in June, so The Old Lady are still on course for an amazing  ‘treble’.

Monaco, many people’s dark horses to lift the Champions League this year, face an almost impossible task of overhauling Italian giants Juventus in their own back-yard when they attempt to wipe out a two-goal deficit on Tuesday night.

The French municipality have found themselves 2-0 down following their first leg defeat, but they’ve bounced back before this season, and they’ll be hoping they can transfer some of their current Ligue 1 form into this second leg on the back of nine straight wins in the French top flight.

However, when looking at Monaco’s recent away results in the Champions League, you’ll notice that they’ve posted mixed results with wins at Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund, but also suffering defeats at Bayer Leverkusen and Manchester City, 3-0 and 5-3 respectively.

Italian sides and in particular, Juventus, are past-masters at defending and holding onto leads, and I can therefore see only one outcome in this Champions League semi-final second leg.
