Juventus have one foot already placed in the quarter-finals of the Champions League following a valuable 2-0 win away in Portugal last month, and they just need to avoid defeat here at their Juventus Stadium to progress at Porto’s expense.
Juventus have been in solid form in recent weeks as they’ve registered wins over Empoli and AC Milan in Serie A, progressed through to the next round of the Coppa Italia beating Napoli 3-1 at home, and seem to have this tie sewn up to progress to the next stage of the Champions League.
In addition, the hosts have won their last nine matches on the trot in all competitions on home turf, and I daresay they’ll be looking to get the job done here in proper fashion. Prolific goalscorer, Higuain (19 goals) will be keen to add to his goalscoring tally tonight.
Visitors Porto registered back-to-back emphatic wins in the Portuguese Primeira Liga recently when they thrashed Nacional 7-0 at home before last weekend’s 4-0 romp away at Arouca, but they face a very different opponent in Juventus on Tuesday night.
Porto saw their home advantage evaporate to a two-goal deficit in the first leg in Porto to Juventus, and they’ll now need to go on the front foot in this second leg this evening. This will undoubtedly leave them vulnerable at some point, and I’m expecting Juventus to pounce when the opportunity presents itself.
Porto have recorded mixed results away from home in this competition, and they’ll take heart from the fact that they won last time out in Italy when they beat AS Roma 3-0 back in August last year.
That said, I’m backing the hosts to finish off Porto tonight in perhaps a 1-0 victory.
