Lanus currently occupy the last remaining Copa Sudamerica spot as they sit in 10th place in the Argentinian Primera Division, but they’ll be mindful of the fact that they only hold a slender margin ahead of their rivals below them.
And although they’ve suffered recent defeats away from home at Defensa y Justicia and Banfield, they’ll have been encouraged by their recent improvement of form which has seen them put together a four-match unbeaten run which includes wins over Atletico Rafaela, Arsenal and Estudiantes as well as gaining a point in a 1-1 draw at 7th placed Newell’s Old Boys.
At their Estadio Ciudad de Lanús – Néstor Díaz Pérez, Lanus hold a pretty steady record of 8-4-2 19/9, and only Estudiantes (6 goals), have conceded fewer goals at home in the division than Lanus to date this season.
Visitors Huracan have registered just two Primera Division wins from their last 12 matches overall, and this has resulted in them occupying a place in the lower reaches of the domestic top flight. Wins over fourth from bottom club, Aldosivi and bottom half outfit Union Santa Fe is scant return for their efforts, and they fave another difficult challenge on Thursday evening.
An away record of 3-4-7 12/15 suggests that they could struggle to make inroads into a usually solid Lanus defence, especially as they’ve suffered recent back-to-back defeats at Independiente and Olimpo.
With just three clean sheets to date on their travels for Huracan, along with Lanus suffering just one defeat from their last 12 on home turf, this should be a fairly straightforward result for the hosts.
