Back to the Championship, and this next match features an all-Yorkshire affair with an interesting twist – both teams’ managers face their former clubs for the first time since leaving, which adds an extra dimension to the fixture.
Former Rotherham United manager Steve Evans was sacked after a poor start to the season despite guiding the Millers to consecutive promotions in the football league, and he’d like nothing better than getting one over his former employers this afternoon at Elland Road.
Evans has started to turn things around for the famous Leeds United too in recent weeks as they’ve won their last three matches on the trot – Championship wins over Cardiff City and Huddersfield Town were welcome and much-needed points, while they’ve also beaten Wycombe Wanderers in a friendly during the international break.
Visitors Rotherham United are now managed by former Leeds United boss Neil Redfern as he attempts to pull The Millers out of the early relegation mire with his side sitting rock-bottom in the Championship with just 9 points to their name.
But having lost their last four league matches on the trot with defeats to Sheffield Wednesday, Derby County, Middlesbrough and Ipswich Town (all of which were very tough matches), they now face a pumped-up Leeds united at Elland Road with a poor away record of 1-1-6 8/15 under their belts.
The one win came at Birmingham City, but Rotherham have since crashed to three away defeats on the trot and in addition, have kept just two clean sheets from their last 13 on the road, failing to score themselves on five occasions during this sequence.
My money is on Leeds United here although you might want to give the quarter-ball on the hosts for a little extra insurance, given the background to this fixture!
