Legia Warsaw achieved their first target in last week’s Champions League second round first leg tie away in Bosnia when they held Zrinjski to a creditable 1-1 draw, and they now hold home advantage here in the second leg.
Legia Warsaw were held to a 1-1 draw also by Jagiellonia in the Polish Ekstraklasa on the weekend as their domestic season got underway, and with home advantage at their Pepsi Arena, tonight’s hosts will be confident of progressing through to the next qualifying round in this competition.
Legia also hold a pretty solid record in the Champions League as they’ve lost just once in their last 11 matches at this level, which was a 3-0 loss away to Celtic a couple of seasons ago, while at home they’ve posted wins against TNS and Celtic in recent seasons.
Visitors Zrinjski from the Bosnian Premier Liga missed out on the chance to gain a lead in the first leg at their Stadion Bijeli Brijeg as they were held to a 1-1 draw by tonight’s opponents Legia, and they now face a tough trip away in Poland in the return leg this evening.
Zrinjski’s exposure at this level has been limited, and their last success in the Champions League came some seven seasons ago when they beat Slovan Bratislava 1-0 at home back in 2009, but since then, their results have been without success.
Two seasons ago, they made it through to the qualifying rounds but lost to Maribor 2-0 on aggregate, and then failed to make home advantage count against Legia last week.
