It’s extremely unlikely that Leicester City will repeat last season’s heroics this time around in the Premier League but they can still mount a serious challenge for a european spot this season despite a bit of a slow start from The Foxes in this new campaign.
Leicester’s recent 2-1 home win over Swansea City was their only win so far in their opening four matches of the new Premier League season, but having lost at Hull City and a heavy 4-1 defeat at Anfield against Liverpool, the current title holders sit a disappointing fifth from bottom in the English top flight.
However, the league table can change in dramatic fashion in these early weeks of the season, and all three points this afternoon against Burnley could see Leicester City jump into a mid-table position.
Visitors Burnley are level on points with Leicester City and sit just one league position above The Foxes heading into this afternoon’s encounter at the King Power Stadium but Burnley’s expectations will be a little more conservative than their hosts in this campaign.
Premier League survival is at the top of manager Sean Dyche’s bucket-list this season as he will be looking to keep his side in the top flight after a couple of seasons yo-yoing between the Premier League and the Championship.
Away form will play a huge part in The Clarets’ bid for survival and having lost their opening match on the road at Chelsea 3-0, it’ll be interesting to see how they fare against Leicester City today. Burnley’s away record at top half opposition last time they were in the top flight finished up on a poor 1-3-6 7/17, and you’d have to think that Leicester City should now be considered a top half club.
