RB Leipzig head into Saturday evening’s German Bundesliga clash with Schalke with a three-point lead at the top of the domestic division over giants Bayern Munich, and the hosts could maintain this lead this evening as they lok to extend their unbeaten start to the new campaign.
Leipzig are one of only two teams to remain undefeated in the Bundesliga so far this season with the other side being Hoffenheim, and with a solid home record of 4-1-0 10/4 behind them at their Red Bull Arena with seven league wins on the trot, it would be a brave man to bet against them tonight.
Home wins over Borussia Dortmund, Augsburg, Werder Bremen and Mainz have made Leipzig surprise contenders to topple Bayern Munich’s crown this term, and they’ve won both of their games against top half opposition already this season.
Onto Schalke then, and they currently occupy a creditable 8th place in the Bundesliga having won five of their last seven league matches overall, but their current league standing is thanks mainly to a solid home record which has seen them win four of their six matches to date.
However, it’s a different kettle of fish away from home for Schalke who possess an ordinary looking record of 1-2-3 3/6 as they recorded their first away win of the season a couple of weekends ago with a 1-0 win at 14th placed Wolfsburg.
Schalke hold an average record of 1-2-2 3/4 when visiting teams in the top half of the Bundesliga so far this season, but they’ve tended not to travel too well generally speaking in the German top flight overall.
