Next, I take a look at how Group E is shaping up with two fixtures in this group tonight with all four teams having an interest on Matchday 6 for differing reasons; hosts Bayer Leverkusen play host to group leaders Monaco needing at least a point to ensure their passage into the next phase of the competition.
Theoretically, Tottenham can still overhaul the German club if they beat CSKA Moscow by a good margin, but Leverkusen will be focusing on what they can do this evening as they still remain unbeaten in this competition.
Leverkusen have picked up one win (which was a 1-0 win away at Tottenham) but their campaign has been littered with draws as they’ve fought out stalemates against CSKA Moscow home and away, Tottenham and Monaco. Their last encounter against Monaco was a Champions League match back in 2014 which Monaco won 1-0.
Onto the visitors then, and Monaco currently sit top of Group E having registered wins over Tottenham (home and away) along with a convincing 3-0 win over CSKA Moscow on home turf. In addition, they’ve drawn 1-1 with Bayer Leverkusen and CSKA Moscow respectively to also remain unbeaten in the group stages.
Monaco also remain unbeaten in this competition away from home, but it’s interesting to note that seven of their last nine matches away from home in the Champions League has seen both teams score.
With Leverkusen needing a point and visitors Monaco in good form in both their domestic league and the Champions League, I’ll back that both teams score here this evening.
