Lincoln City head into Monday night’s National League clash with Gateshead looking to register a third successive league win following recent back-to-back wins against Southport and Macclesfield Town, and they currently sit fourth in the table as a result.
The Imps were impressive against Southport, smashing four goals past the hapless Sandgrounders, and they’ll be looking for more of the same this afternoon when Gateshead come to town, despite the visitors sitting just one league place below them.
Lincoln also hit six past newcomers North Ferriby United on the opening day of the season at Sincil Bank and with strikers Margetts (5 goals) and Rhead (4 goals) in good early form, the hosts will be confident of outscoring their opponents here today.
Onto Gateshead, and they sit in fifth place in the non-league top flight but this is largely due to remaining unbeaten at home in their first three matches with a solid record of 2-1-0 10/2 rather than all-round consistency at this stage.
This is further emphasises by the fact that they’ve suffered back-to-back defeats away from home at Forest Green Rovers and Bromley respectively, while The Heed have managed just one away win from their last six matches overall on their travels.
Their early away record stands at 1-0-2 5/4 with a 3-0 win at struggling Southport their only success on the road to date in these early stages of the new National League season.
Despite appearing to be closely matched, I believe Lincoln’s early goalscoring form could be the difference here today, but I do advise giving the quarter ball on the hosts.
