LINCOLN v TORQUAY – Pick: 1 AH0 – 30 August 2014

Imps should overcome Gulls at Sincil Bank

National League Tips

Football – England – Conference Premier

Saturday 30th August 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Lincoln City suffered their first defeat of the season on Monday when they lost 2-3 away at Halifax Town, but they have the chance to get back to winning ways when they host Torquay United at Sincil Bank this afternoon.

Lincoln shouldn’t be too disappointed by losing at The Shay as not many teams avoided defeat against Halifax last term and indeed The Shaymen have racked up three straight wins on home turf already this season.

Back to The Imps though and they’ve shown some good early form in this new campaign with wins over Altrincham and highly fancied Barnet (both by 2-1 score lines) away from home together with a 3-2 home win over Braintree Town. Lincoln shared a point with Kidderminster in their season opener against a side that should be there or thereabouts for perhaps a play-off place.

Forwards Tomlinson and Burrow look the most likely anytime goalscorers for Lincoln this afternoon.

Torquay United were relegated from League Two at the end of a very disappointing campaign last season and they’ve started this new season down in the Conference in a quiet and unspectacular fashion.

The Gulls started with a 1-3 defeat away at Gateshead but have since gone undefeated in their last four matches with a 3-0 home win over Welling United and then three draws on the trot with Southport, Dartford and Aldershot Town.

It’s never an easy task to escape this division once you’re in it and it’ll be interesting to see how Torquay fare this term, particularly away from home against teams they wouldn’t have faced before and the different grounds.

Lincoln are favourites for this fixture but with Torquay’s current spate of draws, I’ll back the hosts with the round ball in this one with a view to a 2-1 win for The Imps.

Pick: Lincoln City AH0 @ 1.61 Pinnacle
