LINCOLN v WREXHAM – Pick: 1 AH0 – 18 October 2014

Imps look to keep Dragons quiet at Sincil Bank

National League Tips

Football – England – Conference Premier

Saturday 18th October 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Lincoln City and Wrexham were both teams that for so long were regular fixtures in League Two (or the old 4th Division), but they now face each other in the non-league top flight in a battle to return to the football league.

After a disastrous spell where they lost six of seven matches played, Lincoln City appear to have steadied the ship somewhat in recent weeks as they’ve lost just once in their last five (a 1-2 loss at Nuneaton Town), but have registered wins over Macclesfield Town and AFC Telford at Sincil Bank.

The Imps have since recovered to a mid-table position where they hold an overall home record of  4-2-2  14/11 but their record at home against top half teams reads a more inconsistent  2-2-2  9/9 with wins over Macclesfield Town and Grimsby Town, but have lost to west country pair Bristol Rovers and Torquay United.

Lincoln forwards Burrow (5 goals) and Tomlinson (6 goals) look the best bets for anytime goalscorers for the hosts with Tomlinson scoring 5 against Wrexham since November 2012 in his stints for Alfreton and now Lincoln.

Visitors Wrexham started their new Conference season in strong fashion particularly on the road where they recorded three wins from their first three away matches with wins at Dartford, Alfreton Town and Forest Green Rovers and they briefly possessed the best away record in the division.

Since then however, The Dragons’ form has slumped in alarming fashion as they’ve won just one further match on their travels from their last five, that being a 1-0 win at Barnet no less, but have suffered defeats at Bristol Rovers, Chester and Torquay United.

In their last away match though, they did gain a useful point at Halifax Town in a 2-2 draw to give them an overall away record of  4-1-3  11/10, and it’s interesting to note that Wrexham have failed to score just once in their eight away matches so far.

Wrexham will be without striker and leading goalscorer Louis Moult (8 goals) for this one though as he received a red card in The Dragons’ recent 0-1 home loss to Grimsby Town.

Lincoln have been pretty good at Sincil Bank in recent weeks and as the visitors will be without the services of Moult up front, I’ll back The Imps to at least avoid defeat here in a match they may well win perhaps 2-1.
