Although they’ve made a poor start to the new Belgian top flight season, today’s hosts Lokeren have a great opportunity to bounce back with all three points against out-of-sorts Mouscron-Peruwelz at their Daknamstadion on Saturday afternoon.
Lokeren sit third from bottom in the Jupiler League having registered just one win from their first four matches overall, which was a resounding 3-0 win over early strugglers Westerlo, and they face another club that will potentially be spending most of their season in the bottom half of the division, Mouscron-Peruwelz, this afternoon.
Prior to a 3-0 defeat at home to Genk last weekend, Lokeren had won their previous five matches on home turf on the trot, and had conceded just one goal from four of those previous five games. They’ll no doubt be looking to lift themselves away from the bottom end of the table with a win this afternoon.
Onto Mouscron-Peruwelz, and they narrowly avoided last season’s relegation play-off spot (courtesy of a better goal difference than Westerlo) and avoided automatic relegation by one point, so following their slow start to this new season, there are fears they will once again be embroiled in a relegation dogfight again this term.
Mouscron finished with an away record of 4-4-7 21/29 at the end of last season, and having lost four of their last five away matches, it’s easy to see why they find themselves down near the bottom of the Belgian top flight again this season.
Indeed, it’s actually 10 away matches now without a win for Mouscron-Peruwelz as the rot appears to have well and truly set in on their travels.
Even so, I would advise giving the quarter-ball on hosts Lokeren here who should (should) win.
