Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s Burton Albion ended Luton Town’s run of eleven matches without defeat in League Two last Saturday when they beat The Hatters 1-0 at the Pirelli Stadium.
However, Luton Town return to their Kenilworth Road ground for for this afternoon’s encounter against struggling Mansfield Town where they hold a solid record of 6-1-2 11/4, and where they’ve won their last six home matches on the trot.
Luton have dealt very effectively with the mid-to-lower table teams in the division at home as recent results show, along with keeping five clean sheets from these last six matches too so manager John Still will be challenging his team for another clean slate here today no doubt.
Hatters striker Max Cullen (8 goals) is the most likely to hit the back of the net for the hosts.
Visitors Mansfield Town ended a run of eight league matches without a win last weekend when they beat Plymouth Argyle 1-0 at Field Mill which lifted The Stags away from the relegation zone for the time being.
However, Plymouth and Shrewsbury Town possess the worst away records of the teams currently situated in the top seven of League Two, so today’s trip to Luton will certainly test whether Mansfield have turned a corner or if it was just a case of ‘horses for courses’ against The Pilgrims.
Mansfield’s away record stands at a disappointing 1-3-5 5/13 and they are the division’s lowest goalscorers away from home so far this season. In fact, The Stags have failed to score in five of their nine matches on the road so far and have gone six matches without a win.
This last statistic leads me to believe that Luton Town will bounce back with all three points this afternoon against a Mansfield outfit that find it hard to score goals on their away trips. Could be a 1-0 win for The Hatters.
