LUTON v OXFORD – Pick: 1 AH0 – 27 September 2014

Hatters look set for second home win

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Saturday 27th September 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Following a disappointing run of five League Two matches without a win, John Still’s Luton Town side have put together a promising three match run without defeat as they look ahead to their upcoming home match at Kenilworth Road against Oxford United.

With recent wins over Cheltenham Town 1-0 at home and last weekend’s 1-0 win away at Cambridge United, The Hatters have moved away from the relegation places and their recent improvement in form could see the stage set to register their second home win of the season.

Luton’s home form improved with that recent win over Cheltenham Town, but prior to that, they’d managed just one point with a creditable draw against Bury, but had suffered defeats to AFC Wimbledon and Plymouth Argyle.

Their home record now stands at  1-1-2  2/3 and striker Mark Cullen (3 goals) appears to be their best bet for an anytime goalscorer flutter.

Visitors Oxford United are unbeaten in their last five league matches, but despite this, they are still situated third from bottom in the division. This is largely due to the fact that whilst they’ve remained unbeaten during this sequence, four of those five matches have ended up in draws and the points have not been enough to lift The U’s away from the wrong end of the table.

Oxford have shown signs of improvement though following a horrific start to the new campaign as they lost their first four matches on the trot and the early signs were very bleak indeed. The U’s’ away record currently stands at  0-2-2  3/5 with only Shrewsbury town and Carlisle United being the other teams without an away win so far.

In fact, Oxford’s away record is woeful as they’ve won just once in their last sixteen matches on the road, and the bulk of their recent good work has been at the Kassam Stadium.

I fancy Luton’s chances of adding to their win tally this afternoon on home turf given Oxford’s terrible away results, but I’m erring on the side of caution as The U’s have been involved in a number of draws already this term. Back the hosts then with the round ball with a view to The Hatters perhaps sneaking a narrow 1-0 win.
