LYON v MONACO

Football – France – Ligue 1 Betting Tips

Sunday evening brings us further action from the French top flight and my next preview centres around the pick of the fixtures as fifth placed Lyon take on second placed Monaco at their Parc Olympique Lyonnais with both teams pushing for european spots for next season.

Lyon are just one point behind fourth placed Bordeaux prior to tonight’s match, but they also have two games in hand over their european rivals, so they’ll be keen to make home advantage count here this evening. However, this may be easier said than done as Lyon have managed just one win in Ligue 1 from their last four outings.

That win came in a 3-0 win away at bottom half outfit Metz but an away loss at Ligue 1 leaders PSG and a heavy 4-1 defeat at home to 16th placed Lorient suggests that a home win here is anything but guaranteed. Lyon possess an overall home record of  11-0-5  39/19, while their record at home against top half opposition is not an entirely convincing  4-0-3  13/9.

Monaco lie second to PSG in the race for the Ligue 1 title as they trail the French champions by three points, but they too also have a couple of games in hand so tonight’s clash represents an important match for the visitors too.

Monaco have come to the fore of the european stage recently following their successes against Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, and manager Leonardo Jardim has assembled a young and vibrant squad at his disposal along with a couple of ‘older heads’ such as forwards Falcao (18 goals) and Germain (9 goals) to balance things out.

Monaco possess a decent away record of  10-4-2  36/15 so far this season, but it’s been their all-out attacking style that has caught the eye both domestically and in europe with the likes of explosive striker Mbappe (12 goals) providing the perfect foil.

Having won their last six Ligue 1 matches on the trot Monaco have the momentum behind them, but I’ll back them with the attractively priced draw no bet option due to their commitments during the week in the Champions League.
