Second placed Lyon will be keen to return to winning ways following last weekend’s defeat away at Nice which ended a run of five matches without defeat for tonight’s hosts overall.
Recent wins over Toulouse, Troyes and Saint-Etienne helped lift Lyon into second place in the French top flight but they are still a seemingly un-assailable 13-points deficit to league leaders PSG who once again seem destined for the title already in this season.
Back to Lyon though, and they do hold a solid record on home turf as their overall record of 4-2-1 10/2 shows along with holding the best defensive record at home in the division. In addition, Lyon have won their last four on the trot with wins over Bastia, Reims, Toulouse and Saint-Etienne.
Visitors Montpellier head into tonight’s clash in pretty good form themselves as they’ve put together a five-match unbeaten run which has helped pull them away from the bottom end of the division, and they now sit in 14th place as a result.
Nevertheless, they’ll face a tough assignment tonight in Lyon as Montpellier are still without an away win this season in the French top flight with an overall record of 0-3-3 2/6 away from home so far this term.
In addition, Montpellier have failed to score in four of their six away matches already, and this is not a good statistic to bring into a game with the second-placed Lyon as opponents.
