MACCLESFIELD v TAMWORTH – Pick: 1 – 22 March 2014

Silkmen's class to show against Lambs

National League Tips

Football – England – Skrill Premier

Saturday 22nd March 2014 – Kickoff:  1500hrs

Next up is a bottom half clash in the Skrill Premier with hosts Macclesfield Town taking on relegation threatened Tamworth who currently sit second from bottom, at the Moss Rose ground on Saturday afternoon.

Macclesfield ended a run of four matches without a win recently when they beat Barnet 2-0 at home on Tuesday night but it’ll be interesting to see if this win will kick-start The Silkmen’s play-off push following recent defeats to Welling United, Kidderminster and a heavy 1-4 defeat at Southport. However, two of these three losses came away from home and they now return to their Moss Rose ground for today’s important clash.

On that point, Macclesfield have been in solid form on home soil having lost just once in their last fourteen at the Moss Rose with an overall home record of  10-4-4  31/20 (an incidentally, that loss was to Skrill Premier leaders Luton Town), and the hosts have failed to score on just three occasions to date at home and have scored in each of their last fourteen matches.

Visitors Tamworth have endured a difficult campaign again this season in the non-league top flight and they are now in the middle of a relegation dog-fight as they sit second from bottom in the division and eight points adrift of Chester City and safety.

Time is running out fast for The Lambs who will now be depending on their home form whilst trying to nick points on the road, but with just one win overall from their last eleven league matches, they face a massive task to stay afloat in the Skrill Premier. Recent defeats to Halifax Town, Nuneaton, Forest Green Rovers and Alfreton Town have prevented them from clawing their way out of the bottom four, while their overall away record of  3-2-12  14/35 hasn’t exactly helped either.

With just one away win from their last twelve, Tamworth face another uphill task away at Macclesfield particularly having scored just 2 goals from their last five (losing all five on the trot by the way) and conceding a total of 10 goals during this mini period.

To sum up, Macclesfield have been strong at home all season and I don’t see any reason not to back them here against a Tamworth outfit who have really struggled on their travels for most of the season – this should be a simple 2-1 win for the hosts here.
