Malmo head into Saturday afternoon’s encounter against Kalmar knowing they need to maintain their winning form at their Swedbank Stadion as they have second placed Norrkoping breathing down their necks.
Although Malmo currently sit top of the Swedish Allsvenskan with a three-point cushion, they’ll still need to switch on here today despite facing off against bottom half outfit Kalmar. That said, Malmo are in great form right now in the Swedish top flight having won five of their last six with wins gained against Gefle, Hammarby, Falkenberg, Ostersunds and Orebro.
Malmo’s home record also stands at an impressive 6-0-1 14/3 following five straight wins on the trot on home turf, along with keeping a total of five clean sheets on the bounce too. Striker Kjartansson (9 goals) is the player to watch out for here today.
Visitors Kalmar have lost just once in their last six matches overall in the Allsvenskan, but on the flip side, have registered just two wins from their last seven as well. Kalmar currently occupy 12th place and they hold an away record of 2-2-3 10/12 heading into today’s clash.
Recent away wins at fellow strugglers Djurgarden and Falkenberg have kept them out of trouble so far but they still remain only three points ahead of relegation play-off team Hammarby as we head into this weekend’s round of fixtures.
Malmo have won four of the last six meetings between these two sides, while at the Swedbank Stadion, Malmo have won the last two encounters 3-0 and 3-1 respectively; I’ll therefore back them to cover the line again here this afternoon.
