Manchester City could move top of the Premier League once again if they take all three points this evening as both Arsenal and Leicester City face potentially tricky away fixtures at Liverpool and Tottenham respectively.
Manchester City swept Norwich City away in a 3-0 win away at Carrow Road in the third round of the FA Cup on the weekend, and they head into tonight’s encounter with Everton on the back of a 2-1 win over Watford last time out in the Premier League.
City’s home record stands at a fairly reasonable 8-0-2 29/12 but it’s the amount of goals that the hosts are scoring that is the stand-out statistic in my view. Recent wins over Southampton, Swansea City and Sunderland have yielded a total of 9 goals for and they’ve conceded just 3 in reply.
Visitors Everton avoided the potential banana-skin in the FA Cup third round when they accounted for League Two strugglers Dagenham & Redbridge 2-0 at Goodison Park in a workman-like performance, but they now face a tough trip to Manchester this evening having won just once in their last seven Premier League matches.
That win was a 1-0 victory away at Newcastle United but they’ve recently lost to Leicester City and Stoke City both at home while their away record remains typically stubborn under manager Roberto Martinez at 3-5-1 13/9.
However, Everton striker Lukaku could be doubtful for the Manchester City trip, and with an away record at top half opposition of 0-2-1 2/3, Everton could struggle to keep up with their hosts in the attacking stakes.
