MANCHESTER UNITED v CELTA VIGO

Football – Europe – Europa League Betting Tips

Manchester United come into this Europa League 2nd leg tie with a slender one goal advantage over their Spanish opponents Celta Vigo, but they do hold the advantage of being at Old Trafford where they’re unbeaten in their last 28 matches in all competitions.

However, having lost away at Arsenal 2-0 on the weekend in the Premier League and against his arch-rival Arsene Wenger, Jose Mourinho will be desperate not to lose tonight, particularly as he has the ‘bases loaded’ in favour of the Europa League which has now become the club’s main priority this season.

But even though United hold a great unbeaten record on home turf, the nature of their results are a far cry from the Alex Ferguson days as Mourinho has set his sides up in ‘safety first’ mode, and the club have reportedly missed out on signing Monaco’s exciting striker Mbappe with the forward rejecting a move to Old Trafford due to Mourinho’s defensive tactics.

To emphasise this, United have been involved in just one match from their last 11 overall which has  gone over 2.5 goals in 90 minutes.

Visitors Celta Vigo still find themselves in this tie as they trail Manchester United by just the single goal prior to this Europa League semi-final 2nd leg at Old Trafford. However, if they’re to progress further in this competition to the final, Celta will need to do what they haven’t been able to do in their last three matches overall, and that is to score a goal!

In fact, Celta Vigo have scored just one goal from their last five matches in all competitions which, incidentally, have all resulted in defeats for the La Liga side, so they travel to Manchester this evening looking to avoid a sixth defeat on the trot.

Only one away match from the six they’ve played to date in this year’s Europa League has resulted in over 2.5 goals, which was a 3-2 defeat at Ajax in the earlier group stages of the competition.

To sum up, I’m not expecting this match to be a classic by any stretch of the imagination, so I’ll back the hosts just to avoid defeat here in what could be a boring 0-0 draw or a 1-0 win for United.
