Manchester United v Southampton Betting Tip 1 – Sunday 11 January

Premier League Tips

Manchester United are unbeaten since losing the derby match against City at the beginning of November. It’s a run of eight wins and three draws from their last 11 games and it has helped them climb to third in the table, one place ahead of Sunday’s opponents. Their last match was a 2-0 away win at Yeovil in the third round of the FA Cup but that was their first in in four away games after drawing their last three in the league. Their home form has been excellent, however, winning their last five.

After a sticky spell at the beginning of December, Southampton have found their stride again and cemented their place in the top four. They had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Ipswich in the cup last weekend but having taken 10 points from their previous four league games – including four from two home games against Chelsea and Arsenal – they come into this match in much better shape than when these two sides met last month.

After having what seemed like an endless list of injuries since Louis Van Gaal took over in July, the United boss only has one player missing from the squad ahead of Sunday’s game. Ashley Young aside, he has a full quota to pick from. It means that the likes of Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Angel Di Maria will be available to play in the Premier League for the first time time in weeks – an excellent boost as United look to book their place in next year’s Champions League.

After scoring against Arsenal and Chelsea in recent games, Saido Mane will be missing for the next few weeks having picked up an injury. He was set to be on international duty for Senegal in the African Cup of Nations so they will have prepared for this but it will still be disappointing to lose a player who was really beginning to hit form after a summer move. His pace would have been even more of an asset on the break at Old Trafford.

There’s one point between these two clubs and Southampton can consider themselves unlucky that they never got anything the last time these two met in December. United are a different proposition at home, though, and have been clinical against Liverpool and Newcastle recently. They’re not the finishing article by any means but they are improving and the odds on a home win are fair here.
