Mansfield Town succumbed to a fourth defeat in five matches in League Two on Good Friday when they went down 1-0 away at Wycombe Wanderers and they face another tough challenge on Easter Monday when they entertain runaway league leaders Northampton Town.
Despite holding home advantage at their One Call Stadium, Mansfield have recently suffered defeat to fourth from bottom side Yeovil Town but held Portsmouth to a 1-1 draw last time out on home turf.
Mansfield’s overall home record stands at an inconsistent-looking 6-7-6 26/23 and they’ve managed just one home win against top half opposition so far this season amidst a record of 1-5-3 11/11.
Visitors Northampton Town hold a commanding 13-point lead over second placed Oxford United as we head into Easter Monday’s league fixtures, and The Cobblers require just a further eight points (as it stands) to gain promotion up to League One next season.
Northampton are enjoying a 16-game unbeaten spell in the English fourth tier currently as automatic promotion now looks a certainty, something which won’t be lost on former Oxford United manager Chris Wilder as he steers his side to the League Two title.
Northampton’s away record reads a solid-looking 13-4-2 39/23 as they’ve won 9 of their last 10 away matches along with having failed to score on their travels just twice all season, they look set to collect a further three points this afternoon.
That said, I’ll back the visitors with the round ball as the Easter period can throw up some interesting results and upsets!
