Melbourne Victory have the chance to overhaul their cross-city rivals on Friday evening when they take on Perth Glory at their AAMI Park if they take all three points in this encounter, courtesy of having a slightly better goal difference than their bitter rivals.
Victory have been one of the strongest teams in the Australian premier competition for a number of years now, but they have been eclipsed by their big-spending city rivals Melbourne City and Sydney FC so far this season, but tonight’s hosts won’t mind flying under the radar.
The home side have won four of their last five A-League matches overall with wins registered against Adelaide United, Wellington Phoenix, Western Sydney Wanderers and Newcastle Jets. On home turf, their form has been equally impressive having won three of their four matches played to date as the goals have been flying in.
Visitors Perth Glory sit in a relatively comfortable mid-table position so far in this new Australian domestic season as past seasons have seen them situated between mid-table to lower end of the league standings.
But Perth have made a reasonable start to this new campaign and they occupy a top six spot ahead of their long trip to Melbourne, but it should be remembered that Glory do not travel well and their current league position is thanks to remaining undefeated at their nib Stadium.
Perth’s away record though stands at 1-0-3 5/10 which includes defeats at Brisbane Roar, Sydney FC and a very disappointing 2-0 loss at struggling Central Coast Mariners.
