Middlesbrough registered a second win on the trot on Saturday when they beat newcomers MK Dons 2-0 at the Riverside Stadium, and they’ll be looking for more of the same in tonight’s clash with last season’s surprise-package Brentford here this evening.
Middlesbrough have lost just once so far this season in the Championship when they suffered a reverse at home to Bristol City, but Boro got back on track in style with a 3-1 win away at Sheffield Wednesday which was followed up with the home win over MK Dons.
Middlesbrough’s early home record therefore stands at 2-0-1 5/1 and they once again look the team to beat in this season’s Championship under the guidance of manager Karanka who has made them a difficult unit to break down on home turf.
Visitors Brentford achieved a magnificent play-off position last season in their long-awaited return to the Championship, but since the success of last term, former manager Mark Warburton has moved on and I wonder if the same vibe still exists at Griffin Park now?
Brentford currently sit in 18th place having gained just one win from their first five matches which was a 4-2 win away at Bristol City, but The Bees will have to be on their guard to avoid a possible ‘second season syndrome’ this term.
Brentford’s away record stands at an even 1-1-1 5/4, but the Riverside was not a happy hunting ground for them last season as they lost 4-0 in the regular season followed by the 3-0 defeat in the play-offs.
Incidentally, Middlesbrough have won the last four matches between these two sides on the trot and I’ll back them again to take the points here in perhaps a 2-1 win.
