Middlesbrough maintained their bid for an automatic promotion spot when they beat bottom half club Huddersfield Town 2-0 at the Riverside Stadium at the weekend.

Middlesbrough currently sit in fourth place but they’re just four points adrift of Championship leaders Bournemouth, and with a reduced fixture schedule during this week, Boro could take full advantage by taking all three points here tonight.

Middlesbrough’s home record stands at  7-4-2  24/7 and they’ve been solid on home turf all season having racked up three wins on the trot at the Riverside with impressive wins over Derby County, Nottingham Forest and Huddersfield, while keeping a total of eight clean sheets so far.

Boro have numerous potential anytime goalscorers in the shape of Leadbitter, Kike, Bamford and Tomlin.

It’s perhaps true to say that Cardiff City fans have not enjoyed a blossoming honeymoon period under new manager Russell Slade as The Bluebirds crashed to a fourth defeat in six matches on the weekend when they lost 3-2 away at Norwich City.

Despite a stirring 2-goal fightback, Cardiff just couldn’t get that third goal which condemned them to a sixth away loss, and they still remain with just one away win all season with an overall record of  1-6-6  12/20.

The Welsh outfit have started to leak goals at the back too as they’ve conceded 9 goals in their last three away outings, and with Middlesbrough possessing some key attacking players, it could be another fruitless trip for Slade’s men.

Middlesbrough have been impressive at home and should take advantage of an average Cardiff outfit here tonight with perhaps a 2-1 win.
