MILLWALL v CHARLTON – Pick: 2 AH0 – 03 April 2015

Improving Addicks to extend Lions' winless run at New Den

Championship Tips

Football – England – Championship

Friday 3rd April 2015 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Next up is an all-London affair between relegation-threatened Millwall and Charlton Athletic at the New Den with the hosts in desperate need of three points this afternoon.

Following a run of six Championship matches without a win, and indeed the recent 4-1 home defeat to Norwich City, former manager Ian Holloway was sacked with Millwall talisman and record top-scorer Neil Harris being named as his successor.

Despite Harris’s goalscoring heroics for The Lions though, his side have remained without a win from his three matches in charge so far with a 2-0 defeat away at Bolton Wanderers and back-to-back draws with Brighton and Brentford respectively.

Millwall’s overall home record stands at a disappointing  3-6-10  18/34 and they’re without a home win from their last twelve matches, with their last success being a 1-0 win over Cardiff City last October. In addition, they’ve conceded the highest number of goals at home this season in the Championship (34).

Visitors Charlton Athletic must fancy their chances of taking something at the New Den this afternoon as they make the short trip across the nations capital on the back of five wins from their last six league matches.

Recent wins against Huddersfield Town, Nottingham Forest, Cardiff City, Blackpool and Reading have lifted the joint Matthew/Luzon leadership of The Addicks into the relative comfort of a mid-table position and well away from the ensuing relegation dogfight below them.

Goalscoring midfielders Buyens and Gudmundsson have been instrumental in resurrecting Charlton’s season, while their away record stands at a reasonable  5-7-7  19/28 having won three of their last four on their travels.

I therefore believe the momentum and confidence is definitely on Charlton’s side of the fence, and I’ll back the visitors with the attractively-priced round ball to at least avoid defeat here this afternoon. They might just nick it 1-0 maybe.
