Following four defeats from their last five in the Championship, Millwall will be keen to halt their alarming decline in form when they entertain promotion-seeking Norwich City at the New Den on Saturday.
Defeats to Leeds United, Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham United and Middlesbrough with only a point at home against Fulham in a 0-0 draw has resulted in the London club dropping into the bottom three of the division, and manager Ian Holloway has a tough task of keeping The Lions up in the English second tier.
In addition to these recent defeats, Millwall are also without a home win from their last ten matches on home turf, with their last success being a 1-0 win over Cardiff City way back in last October. Their home record stands at 3-5-9 17/30 and along with bottom club Blackpool, have lost the most home matches in the division so far.
Onto the visitors Norwich City, and their promotion hopes were dealt a blow during midweek when they lost 1-0 at home to struggling Wigan Athletic which was a major shock and halted their run of six wins on the trot in abrupt fashion.
Manager Alex Neil had no excuses for his side following the surprise defeat, but I suspect The Canaries will be looking to bounce back in no uncertain terms this Saturday against a faltering Millwall outfit. Norwich’s away record is a pretty good one which stands at 9-3-5 26/19, and they’ve put together a five-match unbeaten run on their travels lately.
In addition,Norwich have won four of their last five away from home with wins at Bournemouth, Charlton Athletic, Watford and Blackburn Rovers.
In short, Norwich City have proved they are very capable of winning matches on the road while Millwall have suffered recent defeats; I’ll back the visitors to grab the points in what could perhaps be a 2-1 win for the Canaries.
