Monaco’s bid to land a French top flight title moved a step closer with last weekend’s heavy 4-0 defeat at home over Nantes, and the hosts will be looking for more of the same when they entertain Bordeaux at their Stade Louis II ground on Saturday afternoon.
Monaco registered a fifth win in six matches with the result over Nantes to complement previous wins gained over Nice, Montpellier, Metz and Guingamp and they’ve been dominant throughout the whole of this domestic French campaign on home turf where they hold an excellent record of 12-1-1 50/10.
The home side also possess the best attacking record at home in the division and this is in no small part due to the resurgence of striker Falcao who has notched 16 goals already following a disappointing spell at Manchester United. Germain and Lottin (9 goals apiece) have provided invaluable support also.
Visitors Bordeaux face a tough task of keeping Monaco quiet in their own backyard despite having lost just once in their last ten Ligue 1 matches overall – which was a heavy 3-0 loss at home to PSG.
Bordeaux have also improved their away record somewhat with three wins on the trot on the road recently at Nancy, Caen and Lille, but all three of these victories have been gained over teams situated near the bottom of the division.
In the previous meeting between these two sides, Monaco ran out easy 4-0 winners away at Bordeaux’s Stade Matmut-Atlantique, and if Monaco are to land this season’s Ligue 1 title, it’s these sort of games today that they must win.
