Monaco lost ground on current Ligue 1 leaders Nice last weekend when they went down to a 3-1 defeat away at high-flying Toulouse, so they’ll be keen to put things right on Friday night when they play host to Ligue 1 strugglers Montpellier at their Stade Louis II this evening.
Monaco have suffered defeats in each of their last two away matches as they’ve been handed losses at Nice and Toulouse, but with a very positive home record of 3-1-0 10/4 under their belts ahead of tonight’s encounter, Monaco will be confident of registering all three points here.
The home side have registered wins over PSG, Rennes and Angers and they hold a very impressive record on home turf as they’ve suffered just one defeat on home soil from their last 20 league matches.
Visitors Montpellier ended a run of seven Ligue 1 matches without a win last weekend when they recorded a 3-2 home win over fellow strugglers Caen which helped stave off from being sucked down into the relegation zone for the time being.
However, they face a difficult trip away to Monaco on Friday night particularly when you consider their poor results away from home so far in this campaign having failed to win any of their opening four matches on their travels this season to date.
Defeats at Saint Etienne and Lyon in heavy 3-1 and 5-1 losses perhaps indicate that the visitors have some way to go if they’re to climb up into the top half of the division, having gained most of their success so far on home soil.
