MORECAMBE v AFC WIMBLEDON – Pick: 1 – 24 November 2012

Morecambe to nick the points against the Wombles

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Saturday 24th November 2012 – Kickoff:  1500hrs

The Globe Arena is the venue of my next pick as hosts Morecambe take on fellow lower half team AFC Wimbledon on Saturday afternoon and a win for the home side could see them move into the relative comfort of a mid-table position.

Despite Morecambe’s current position of 17th in League Two, they’ve been pretty solid at home and have put together a five match unbeaten run at home which includes wins over Chesterfield 2-0, Southend United 1-0 and Barnet 4-1 along with draws against Burton Albion and Accrington Stanley, both ending in 0-0 draws.

Morecambe’s home record then stands at  3-3-3  12/13 which at first glance doesn’t appear to be too strong but when you consider that they lost three of their first four home matches, you can see they’ve made a vast improvement in recent weeks. Another statistic that will please manager Jim Bentley is that his side have kept four clean sheets from their last five home matches.

The Shrimpers’ leading scorer is Jack Redshaw (6 goals) but he has support also from forwards Kevin Ellison (4 goals, 3 assists) and Richard Brodie (4 goals), along with Andrew Fleming (3 goals, 2 assists), and they definitely have a chance to bounce back from their recent back-to-back defeats (at Gillingham & Northampton Town) against AFC Wimbledon today.

AFC Wimbledon make the trip up north on Saturday on the back of a heavy loss themselves after going down 0-4 at home to Southend United in midweek, and they’ve won just once in their last five matches which was a surprising 3-0 win at York City a couple of weeks ago.

The Wombles’ away record stands at  3-1-5  12/20, but like their home form, they’ve been inconsistent both home and away all season so far and this will always give Morecambe reason to believe they can take all three points off them here today. Another important factor to consider is that AFC Wimbledon have kept just two clean sheets in their last seventeen away matches in League Two.

Both teams then are coming into this match on the back of defeats but I just feel that Morecambe have more in their attacking locker than the visitors and I’ll back them to nick this one 2-1 in a straight win.

Take Morecambe to edge this one 2-1 I reckon.

Pick:  Morecambe straight win @ 2.02 Pinnacle
