MORECAMBE v ALDERSHOT – Pick: X – 12 February 2013

All square at the Globe Arena

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Tuesday 12th February 2013 – Kickoff:  1945hrs

The Globe Arena in Morecambe is my next venue as Morecambe host visitors Aldershot Town who slipped down into the bottom two of the division at the weekend following their 1-2 defeat at home to Plymouth Argyle – more on them later on.

Morecambe also suffered defeat at home to the hands of Exeter City but to put this into perspective, Exeter City along with Gillingham, have the best away records in League Two so this is no disgrace for the Lancashire outfit who had previously posted back-to-back wins over Dagenham & Redbridge and York City both away from home.

In fact that loss to Exeter was Morecambe’s first home loss for nine matches as they’d previously chalked up important wins over Southend United 1-0, Barnet 4-1, AFC Wimbledon 3-1 and Dagenham 2-1 along with taking points off Oxford United, Bradford City and Cheltenham Town (who are all above them in the league).

Morecambe’s home record stands at  5-6-4  18/19 and they’ve kept six clean sheets at the Globe Arena which also isn’t bad going. The Shrimps also have a 3-3-1 home record over teams in the lower half of League Two which sets them up nicely for the visit of second from bottom Aldershot.

Onto the visitors then, and as mentioned Aldershot Town now find themselves second from bottom in League Two just two points above AFC Wimbledon, however, if they win tonight they can move up into 20th place at the expense of Plymouth Argyle.

But this is a big ‘if’ as Aldershot’s last away win was at lowly Barnet back on New Years Day, and The Shots have mainly traded in draws aside from that win with creditable points at Oxford United, York City and Exeter City whose home form is nowhere near as good as their away performances!

Aldershot’s form away from home at the lower half clubs stands at  2-5-2 and they have actually won away at clubs like Southend United 2-1 and Burton Albion 1-0 so Morecambe beware. Aldershot’s away record overall stands at  4-6-5  14/20 and they too have kept six clean sheets on their travels including their last three away matches.

Morecambe haven’t exactly vanquished all-comers at The Globe while Aldershot Town would probably settle for a point on the road here tonight which would lift them out of the bottom two, so I’ll plump for a draw here as I think both sides are pretty evenly matched. A 1-1 score-draw.
