MORECAMBE v CARLISLE – Pick: 1 AH0 – 26 December 2014

Shrimps to avoid defeat at The Globe

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Friday 26th December 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Morecambe’s inconsistencies came to the fore once again on Saturday when they lost 1-0 at Shrewsbury Town which followed a resounding 3-0 home win over third placed Luton Town.

Stringing together a few wins on the trot has been Morecambe’s main problem this season and it seems like one step forward and two steps back for Jim Bentley’s side but they will be encouraged by their recent wins over Luton and also ninth placed Bury.

At the Globe Arena Morecambe hold a pretty reasonable record of  5-2-3  12/10 to their name and have won their last two on the trot against the aforementioned Bury and Luton Town who both occupy top half positions in League Two.

The Shrimps also possess some dangerous attacking personnel such as midfielder and leading goalscorer Ellison (8 goals) as well as forwards Amond and Redshaw (3 goals apiece) along with midfielder Mullin (4 goals).

Carlisle United have made positive steps in the right direction under the guidance of former Notts County manager Keith Curle as The Cumbrians have registered recent wins over Oxford United, Accrington Stanley and Northampton Town.

However, these wins all came on their Brunton Park ground where they hold a reasonable record of  5-2-4  19/18 considering their current fourth from bottom league position. But, away from home Carlisle United continue to struggle as their record of  1-1-8  8/22 insinuates along with having lost their last four matches on the trot.

Defeats at Plymouth Argyle, Portsmouth, Dagenham & Redbridge and Exeter City (failing to score in three of those four losses) underlines their predicament, and they could face another uphill task this afternoon at Morecambe.

Given Morecambe’s current inconsistent streak, they have a 33% chance of winning this match, but I’ll even up the chances on the hosts by adding in the round ball (to cover the draw) at good odds. Morecambe could edge this one anyway perhaps 1-0.
