Saturday 10th March 2012 – Kickoff: 1500hrs
Mid-table Morecambe host relegation threatened Hereford United at their Globe Arena on Saturday afternoon as the hosts look to build upon their victory over Cheltenham Town in midweek.
The Shrimps secured a memorable win over second placed Cheltenham winning 3-1 and will want to record back-to-back wins when Hereford visit in order to maintain their slim hopes of a play-off place. They have also beaten third placed Southend United 1-0 at the end of last month and held Crawley Town to a 1-1 draw.
Morecambe’s home record stands at 6-4-8 29/24, and will certainly be aiming for all three points in this one having won convincingly at Hereford 3-1 back in August last year. Forward Kevin Ellison (14 goals, 2 assists) is on good form at the moment, and has Danny Carlton (7 goals, 5 assists), Izak Reid (2 goals, 5 assists) and veteran striker Phil Jevons (4 goals) providing valuable contributions.
Visitors Hereford United find themselves just one point above second from bottom Northampton Town following a run of nine matches with just one win which was at home to AFC Wimbledon. Away from home they are five matches without a win having lost at Aldershot Town and Gillingham in a 4-5 thriller, and they could struggle again at a Morecambe side who have performed well against top six sides recently.
The Bulls’ away record stands at 3-8-6 21/24, and they have failed to score on six occasions on the road. However, leading scorer Tom Barkhuizen (10 goals), Will Evans and Delroy Facey (4 goals apiece) will need to be monitored closely as they can cause plenty of defensive worries (just ask Gillingham!)
Morecambe at home though should tip the scales in the hosts favour along with recent impressive displays against three of the top six sides, they should just about edge this one; 2-1 to the hosts here.
