MORECAMBE v PLYMOUTH – Pick: 1 AH0 – 13 September 2014

Shrimps to hold off Pilgrims challenge

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Saturday 13th September 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Third placed Morecambe will be looking to maintain their unbeaten start at home in the new League Two season when they entertain Plymouth Argyle at the Globe Arena on Saturday afternoon.

The Shrimps have actually lost just once this season in the league and that was a 1-2 defeat away at Tranmere Rovers a couple of weeks ago, but overall, Jim Bentley’s side have dealt with all-comers both home and away in impressive fashion.

Morecambe have registered wins over Dagenham & Redbridge, Newport County, Oxford United and Cambridge United along with holding Cheltenham Town to a point last time out at the Globe Arena.

Morecambe’s early home record stands at  2-1-0  4/2 with midfielders Ellison (4 goals) and Mullin (3 goals) leading the way. However, strikers Amond and Redshaw also possess goals too and shouldn’t be ignored for an anytime goalscorer option.

Visitors Plymouth Argyle effectively dealt with Luton Town at Kenilworth Road last week and weathered Luton’s first half assault which withered away into a long-ball game in the second half. However, John Sheridan’s side will face a tougher opponent in Morecambe today despite The Pilgrims having registered back-to-back wins recently.

Plymouth remain unbeaten at their Home Park ground so far with wins over west country rivals Exeter City and Southend United,  but on their travels Argyle have tended to struggle in recent times as they’d racked up just one away win in the seven away matches prior to the win at Luton Town who incidentally have struggled so far this season.

In summary, Morecambe have shown strong form at The Globe and they’ve lost just once in their last ten there while the jury is still out on Plymouth’s ability to gain points consistently on the road – I’ll therefore back Morecambe with the generously priced round ball which represents terrific value with Bet Victor. Morecambe could win this 2-1 anyway.
