Morecambe to York visitors

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Tuesday 21st October 2014 – Kickoff: 1945hrs

The Globe Arena, Morecambe is the venue of my next pick with hosts Morecambe looking to consolidate their play-off position when they host second from bottom club York City on Tuesday night.

Morecambe scored a very welcome three points away from home at Burton Albion in an impressive 2-0 win at the Pirelli Stadium, a feat that not many teams achieve, and they’ll be looking to build upon this great result tonight as they look to bounce back from previous back-to-back home defeats.

Losses to Northampton Town and current League Two leaders Wycombe Wanderers have threatened Morecambe’s charge up the table, while their overall home record stands at  3-1-2  7/7. However, it should be taken into account that Morecambe have played five of their six home matches so far against top half opposition, and the game they played against a bottom half team ended up with a 1-0 home win over Oxford United.

Visitors York City have long been known for their dogged determination in League Two since their promotion from the Conference a couple of seasons ago, but time has worn on and their stubborn ways have been found wanting in recent weeks.

The departure of former manager Nigel Worthington after a run of poor results was a surprise but he’d been unable to turn things around at Bootham Crescent, so former Scunthorpe United manager Russell Wilcox has stepped in to try and stop the rot.

However, his first match in charge ended with a 0-1 home defeat to Shrewsbury Town and they now face a tough task away at Morecambe tonight particularly given the fact that The Minstermen have failed to win in their last seven matches.

York’s overall away record stands at  1-2-3  6/11 and they’ve lost their last three on the trot on the road, having conceded 7 goals and scoring just 1.

Morecambe will fancy their chances of registering back-to-back wins tonight but I’ll back them with the round ball as York are capable of grinding out a draw. If Morecambe do win it’s likely to be a low-scoring affair, perhaps 1-0.
