New England Revolution suffered their third defeat in four matches in Wednesday’s 2-1 away loss at Columbus Crew which has cost them dear in their bid to keep up with Eastern Conference league leaders DC United.
The Revs now find themselves with a ten-point margin to make up on the leaders, but it should be noted that New England’s recent three defeats were all inflicted away from home with losses at Portland Timbers (4th in Western Conference), DC United (top of Eastern Conference) and Columbus Crew (5th in Eastern Conference).
Despite these difficult fixtures, New England have held onto second place in the Conference and will now be relying on their solid form at their Gillette Stadium to dig them out of this recent losing rut.
Their home record stands at 4-5-0 14/6 and they are the only team in the Conference to still remain unbeaten on home soil.
Vancouver Whitecaps are currently joint leaders with Seattle Sounders at the top of the Western Conference with 29 points and they’ve won their last two away matches on the trot with a 1-0 win at LA Galaxy which was followed up with a 2-1 win at New York Red Bulls.
The Whitecaps have played three of their five away match schedule so far with the other game being a 2-1 defeat at Montreal Impact, but I do wonder how much of a toll this travelling is having upon their squad.
Vancouver’s away record stands at 5-1-3 7/5 although recent results have been a mixed bag with losses at Colorado Rapids and Montreal along with wins at the aforementioned LA Galaxy and New York Red Bulls.
Although they may not win this one, I do fancy New England Revolution to at least avoid defeat here with home advantage and so I recommend backing them with the round ball in what could be a narrow 1-0 win for the hosts.
