New York City will be looking to post back-to-back wins in the MLS this weekend when they host Montreal impact at their Yankee Stadium ground following last week’s 5-3 win over Orlando City.
This afternoon’s opponents have already tasted defeat to New York City when the two teams clashed earlier in the month with New York City running out 2-1 winners away in Montreal, and the hosts look to have the upper hand ahead of today’s encounter with home advantage behind them.
New York City’s overall home record stands at 3-4-4 20/20 which upon first glance doesn’t appear to be too convincing, but they’ve lost just once in their last six on home turf which was a 3-1 loss to derby rivals New York Red Bulls. The encouraging thing though is they’re capable of scoring plenty of goals.
Visitors Montreal Impact registered a 1-0 home win over Seattle Sounders last weekend which backed up an earlier 3-0 home win over Columbus Crew but they’ve lost their way on their travels in recent weeks as they’ve stumbled to three defeats from their last four on the road.
Defeats to New York City (again) back in June in a 3-1 loss has been further added to with defeats at Toronto and Sporting Kansas, while gaining just one point from the last possible 12 on offer thanks to a 2-2 draw at struggling Philadelphia Union.
Montreal’s overall away record stands at a poor 1-2-6 7/18 as a result, and they look to be up against it here this afternoon against an improving New York City outfit.
With the hosts gaining momentum at home, I’ll back New York City to grab the points in what could perhaps be a 2-1 win for the hosts.
