New York City play host to Orlando City at the Yankee Stadium in Sunday afternoon’s clash as the hosts look to continue their improvements on home turf, having lost just once in their last five matches.
New York City lost in last weekend’s round of matches 1-0 away at New England Revolution but this was almost expected as the Revolution have lost just once on home turf all season, while New York are currently placed second from bottom in the Eastern Conference.
Despite their lowly league standing though, there is cause for optimism in the New York City camp as they’ve recently beaten Montreal Impact and have taken points off the likes of Chicago Fire, Houston Dynamo and Toronto in recent weeks – their only defeat during this sequence was a derby loss to nearby rivals New York Red Bulls.
Visitors Orlando City suffered another home defeat to New York Red Bulls last weekend when they went down to another 2-0 loss at home. This result followed a previous 2-0 defeat at home to FC Dallas and they now face a tricky trip to the Big Apple on Sunday afternoon as they try to avoid a third loss on the trot.
Orlando’s last five matches in the MLS have yielded just one win as they beat Colorado Rapids 2-0 at home back in June, but aside from that, they’ve had little to cheer about having lost three of their last five overall, along with just one win on the road from their last six away trips (at bottom club Chicago Fire).
Orlando’s overall away record stands at 3-3-3 11/13 but they’ve dropped the ball in recent weeks on their travels.
To sum up, I reckon there’s a bit of value to be had on the hosts here who could take a very welcome three points in perhaps a 2-1 win.
