Next up is an inter-Conference clash between mid-table Eastern Conference outfit New York Red Bulls and second placed Western Conference side Vancouver Whitecaps.
The Red Bulls ended a run of three straight defeats in their midweek 3-0 US Open Cup win over NAS outfit Atlanta Silverbacks, and they’ll be hoping to take heart from this result when they play on home turf tonight.
However, three straight defeats in the MLS to Philadelphia Union, Seattle Sounders and Houston Dynamos (the latter two being away defeats) has resulted in the Red Bull franchise side occupying a mid-table position in the Eastern Conference. But their form on home ground has been pretty good overall with a record of 3-2-1 8/5 with the loss to Philadelphia being their first reverse of the season at Red Bull Arena.
Visitors Vancouver Whitecaps currently sit second in the Western Conference three points behind league leaders Seattle Sounders. However, recent results have been very up and down with wins over Real Salt Lake and LA Galaxy, but they’ve also suffered defeats to Seattle Sounders, Colorado Rapids and Montreal Impact.
The Whitecaps’ overall away record reads 4-1-3 5/4 and it also represents their inconsistent nature on the road too despite recent wins (but these were over bottom half teams in the same Conference).
With former Manchester City striker Bradley Wright-Phillips up front, I fancy New York Red Bulls to take the spoils here in what could be a 2-1 win for the hosts, but I suggest using the handicap.
