Football – England – Championship Betting Tips

After losing their opening two matches of the new Championship season, Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle United are now on a strong swing of momentum as they’ve won their last six league matches on the trot ahead of Saturday’s clash with Cardiff City at St James’ Park.

The Magpies now hold a useful three point cushion at the top of the English second tier ahead of second placed Brighton, and the visit of struggling Cardiff City on Saturday represents a golden opportunity of extending their lead at the top of the division.

Newcastle have won their last three matches on the trot on home turf with wins over Norwich City, Brentford and Ipswich Town as the goals have begun to flow at St James’ Park with the hosts scoring 10 goals in these last three matches. Former Crystal Palace striker Gayle (11 goals) looks the obvious choice for an anytime goalscorer here.

Visitors Cardiff City currently sit just one league place above the relegation zone in the Championship following their recent 1-0 defeat at home to Wigan Athletic. Experienced manager Neil Warnock has been given the task of keeping The Bluebirds in the Championship, and Warnock has something of a reputation for keeping the ‘smaller’ clubs in this division.

Last season he guided Rotherham United to safety in the Championship and after being appointed in early October, Warnock had steered Cardiff to three league matches without defeat with wins over Bristol City and Nottingham Forest along with a draw against Sheffield Wednesday.

Cardiff’s away record reads  2-2-3  8/12 which includes wins at Rotherham and Nottingham Forest, but I fancy this trip to the north-east may be too much for them at this stage.
