Newcastle v Liverpool Betting Tip Over 2.5 goals – 1 November 2014

Premier League Tips

Newcastle made the headlines for all the right reasons this week as they were deserved 2-0 winners over Manchester City at the Etihad in the League Cup. Despite fielding a very young side, Alan Pardew’s s team produced a performance of real quality and discipline to book their place in the last eight of the competition. It means that they have now won three games in a row – a far cry from the end of September when there was huge fan and media pressure for Pardew to go after a poor start to the season. They will be determined to continue their recent good form and know that another victory could see them move into the top ten of the Premier League for the first time this season.

Liverpool were also in League Cup action during the week but they had to endure a far more difficult and uncomfortable passage against Swansea. Nonetheless, it was a much needed victory after a couple of poor performances and it was also the night where Mario Balotelli managed just his second goal for the club, coming off the bench to net the equaliser. Unlike last season where they looked dominant at home, scoring plenty of goals, it’s been a different story this time around. They’ve scored more goals away from home so another match on the road is probably welcomed by Brendan Rodgers and his squad.

Having turned in such a good performance in the cup, it will be interesting to see how many of the players who featured against City will start on Saturday. Whoever is chosen will have another difficult task on their hands as they look to win four on the bounce for the first time since November last year. They have only suffered the one defeat at St James’ Park this season, however, and that came on the first day of the season against the Champions.

Rodgers will hope that his goal in the cup will give Balotelli the confidence that his manager has said he’s been lacking in recent weeks. Following the sale of Luis Suarez and the injury to Daniel Sturridge, the central striker position has been a tough one to fill in the first part of the season for Liverpool. With crunch games ahead in both the Premier League and Champions League, there would not be a better time for the Italian to find his form.

This fixture has been associated with goals throughout the history of the Premier League, dating back to the mid 90’s when Liverpool inflicted a couple of memorable defeats in some of the best entertainment and drama seen in the league. I expect Saturday’s early afternoon kick off to be no different as neither side are great defensively. Liverpool’s games on the road have seen 16 goals thus far and expect a few more to be added at St James’ Park.
